ΑΘΗΝΑ — Πέντε νέοι Έλληνες καλλιτέχνες, που η δουλειά τους σχετίζεται με την έννοια της αφοσίωσης, της εσωστρέφειας και του χειροποίητου, συμμετέχουν στην ομαδική έκθεση And the Work of Our Hands, που εγκαινιάζεται την Τετάρτη 5 Απριλίου στον χώρο τέχνης ArtWall. Έργα σε χαρτί των Βασίλη Μπότουλα, Στρατή Ταυλαρίδη και Πάνου Φαμέλη, μια εγκατάσταση έξι μέτρων του Παναγιώτη Βούλγαρη και μια φωτογραφία μεγάλου μεγέθους της Μαρίας Μαυροπούλου συνθέτουν ένα μινιμαλιστικό εικαστικό τοπίο, που με λεπτότητα αγγίζει τις διάφορες πτυχές της σχέσης ανάμεσα σε εργασία και έργο, δημιουργώντας έναν χώρο που προσφέρεται για αναστοχασμό και εξερεύνηση. Η επιμέλεια της έκθεσης είναι του Κυριάκου Σπύρου.

Με αφορμή τη διάκριση που κάνει η φιλόσοφος Χάνα Αρέντ στο έργο της Η Ανθρώπινη Κατάσταση ανάμεσα σε εργασία και έργο (“the labour of our bodies and the work of our hands”), το σκεπτικό της έκθεσης είναι να αναδειχθεί η μικροκλίμακα στην οποία λειτουργεί το καλλιτεχνικό χέρι και η εύθραυστη, οργανική διεργασία μέσα απο την οποία αναδύεται ένα έργο τέχνης. Όλα τα έργα της έκθεσης έχουν ως χαρακτηριστικό την επανάληψη: εμμονικές γραμμές ή πινελιές, χιλιάδες λεπτεπίλεπτες εγκοπές με χειρουργικό νυστέρι σε χαρτί, ατελείωτες ώρες ψηφιακής επεξεργασίας και εκατοντάδες μέτρα μεταξωτής κλωστής αποκαλύπτουν, μέσα απο την απλότητά τους, την κοπιαστική παρέμβαση του καλλιτέχνη ως δημιουργικό σώμα στον κόσμο — και ταυτόχρονα υλοποιούν την επίπονη εργασία και τον χρόνο που χρειάστηκαν για να ολοκληρωθούν.

Η έκθεση θα διαρκέσει από 5 εως 29 Απριλίου, στον χώρο της ArtWall, Σοφοκλέους 26, 10552 Aθήνα. Ο κατάλογος της έκθεσης θα είναι διαθέσιμος στο κλείσιμο της έκθεσης, κατά τη διάρκεια του finissage το Σάββατο 29 Απριλίου, ενώ ένα πρόγραμμα με ξεναγήσεις και ομιλίες απο τους καλλιτέχνες θα ανακοινωθεί προσεχώς στην σελίδα του ArtWall στο Facebook και στον Τύπο.

Την ίδια μέρα των εγκαινίων στο Fresh Hotel Athens, θα πραγματοποιηθεί το The Fashion Room Service XXL Edition, ο σημαντικότερος θεσμός ανάδειξης νέων τάσεων στην ελληνική σκηνή της μόδας. Οι επισκέπτες θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να δουν και να γνωρίσουν από κοντά τους δημιουργούς και να πάρουν μία πρώτη γεύση από τις τάσεις της μόδας, όπως αυτές διαμορφώνονται σήμερα.

Ο Παναγιώτης Βούλγαρης είναι εικαστικός και αρχιτέκτονας με έδρα την Αθήνα. Έχει ολοκληρώσει μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στην Τέχνη και την Αρχιτεκτονική στο University of East London και ΒΑ στις Καλές Τέχνες από το Middlesex University. Η δουλειά του διερευνά τα όρια της τέχνης και της αρχιτεκτονικής μέσα από έργα δημόσιας τέχνης, εγκαταστάσεις και in situ παρεμβάσεις τόσο στην πόλη όσο και στο ύπαιθρο, καθώς και έργα βίντεο και φωτογραφίας. Έχει λάβει μέρος σε εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό, και παράλληλα συνδιευθύνει και επιμελείται τον χώρο σύγχρονης τέχνης Fo Kia Nou 24/7 στην Αθήνα.

Η Μαρία Μαυροπούλου (γεν. 1989) είναι φωτογράφος και εικαστικός που ζει και εργάζεται την Αθήνα. Είναι απόφοιτος της Ανώτατης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών (2014) όπου παρακολούθησε μαθήματα ζωγραφικής, γλυπτικής και φωτογραφίας. Η δουλειά της έχει παρουσιαστεί σε εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό. Είναι πρωτοετής στο μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα Master in Fine Arts της Ανώτατης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών, και μέλος της κολλεκτίβας Depression Era.

Ο Κυριάκος Σπύρου (γεν. 1984) είναι Κύπριος αρθρογράφος, συντάκτης, εκδότης, πιανίστας και συνθέτης. Σπούδασε πιάνο και μουσικολογία στο Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών και αργότερα ηλεκτροακουστική σύνθεση στην Σχολή Τεχνών της Ουτρέχτης. Είναι ο εκδότης του Und, ενός νέου καλλιτεχνικού οδηγού πόλης για την Αθήνα. Μοιράζει τον χρόνο του ανάμεσα σε Κυψέλη και Λεμεσό.

Ο Στρατής Ταυλαρίδης (γεν. Θεσσαλονικη 1990) είναι εικαστικός που κατασκευάζει διάτρητες εγκαταστάσεις απο χαρτί. Τα έργα του είναι εμπνευσμένα απο την καθημερινότητα, και μέσα απο την αγάπη του για γεωμετρικά μοτίβα και κυματιστές μορφές, μεταμορφώνει συνηθισμένα αντικείμενα σε αέρινες εκδοχές του εαυτού τους. Ζει και εργάζεται στην Αθήνα.

Ο Πάνος Φαμέλης γεννήθηκε το 1979 στην Αθήνα. Σπούδασε στην Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών της Θεσσαλονικης, στο πανεπιστήμιο Hogeschool Gent στο Bέλγιο, και έπειτα στο μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα της Σχολής Καλών Τέχνων της Αθήνας. Tου έχουν απονεμηθεί υποτροφίες και βραβεία απο το ΙΚΥ, την Τράπεζα της Ελλάδος και το Μακεδονικό Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης. Χρησιμοποιεί διαφορετικά μέσα έκφρασης, όπως η ζωγραφική, η γλυπτική, οι εγκαταστάσεις, η performance και το θέατρο. Έχει πραγματοποιήσει εφτά ατομικές εκθέσεις, και έχει επιμεληθεί αρκετές εκθέσεις ο ίδιος. Είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος της ομάδας Under Construction.

ATHENS — Five young Greek artists, whose work relates to the concept of devotion, introspection and the handmade, participate in the group exhibition And the Work of Our Hands, opening on Wednesday 5 April at ArtWall project space. Works on paper by Vasilis Botoulas, Panos Famelis and Stratis Tavlaridis, a six-meter-long installation by Panagiotis Voulgaris and a large-format composite photo by Maria Mavropoulou compose a minimalist visual landscape, which sensitively touches upon the various aspects of the relationship between labour and work — all the while creating a space that is offered for self-reflection and exploration. The exhibition is curated by Kiriakos Spirou.

Springing from the distinction that philosopher Hanna Arendt makes in her work The Human Condition between labour and work (“the labour of our bodies and the work of our hands”), the exhibition’s concept is to reveal the microscale on which the artistic hand operates, as well as the fragile, organic process out of which a work of art emerges. All the works at the exhibition share the element of repetition: obsessive lines and brushstrokes, thousands of daintily cuts with a surgical knife on paper, endless hours of digital photo editing and hundreds of meters of silk thread reveal, through their simplicity, the laborious intervention of the artist as a creative body in the world — while at the same time they materialise the arduous labour and time spent to be completed.

The exhibition will be open from 5 to 29 April, at the Artwall project space, Sofokleous 26, 10552, Athens. The exhibition catalogue will be released during the finissage on Saturday 29 April; meanwhile, artist talks and exhibition tours will be announced soon on ArtWall’s Facebook page and the press.

On the same day of the exhibition opening, ‘The Fashion Room Service XXL Edition’ will take place at Fresh Hotel Athens. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the participating designers from the Greek fashion scene, view the newest fashion developments.

Panos Famelis was born in Athens in 1979, where he lives and works. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Thessaloniki, Hogeschool University in Gent, Belgium, and at the postgraduate programme of the Athens School of Fine Arts. He is the recipient of many scholarships and awards, from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation, the Bank of Greece, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and others. Panos Famelis deploys different media in his work, including painting, sculpture, installation, performance and theatre. He has presented seven solo exhibitions, and has curated several exhibitions himself. He is a founding member of the Under Construction collective. http://www.underconstructiongroup.com

Kiriakos Spirou (b. 1984) is a Cypriot art writer, editor, publisher, pianist and composer. He studied piano and musicology in Athens and later on electroacoustic composition at the Utrecht School for the Arts. He is the publisher of UND, a new art guide for Athens. Maria Mavropoulou (b. 1989) is an Athens-based artist. She is an Athens School of Fine Arts graduate (2014) having attended courses of painting, sculpture and photography. Currently she is a postgraduate student at the school’s Master in Fine Arts course. Stratis Tavlaridis (b.Thessaloniki 1990) is a visual artist who constructs perforated installations out of paper. His works are inspired by everyday life and with his eye for geometric patterns and flowing designs, he transforms ordinary items into ethereal manifestations of themselves. Panagiotis Voulgaris is a visual artist and architect based in Athens. He has completed postgraduate studies in Art and Architecture at University of East London and a BA in Fine Arts from Middlesex University. His work investigates the limits between art and architecture through works of public art, installations and in situ interventions both in the city and incountryside, as well as works of video and photography.
