Social Distortion. Less real more human

Οι καλλιτέχνες Martina Menegon, Alexander Martinz και Stefano D’Alessio από τη Βιέννη, θα συναντήσουν στην Αθήνα τους Κώστα Λάλε και Mάγδα Λαμπροπούλου στην έκθεση Social Distortion / Less real more human στο ArtWall.

Η έκθεση περιλαμβάνει σειρά εγκαταστάσεων new media και γλυπτά που επικεντρώνονται γύρω από τα ρευστά σώματα, μία συνεχείς εναλλαγή ανάμεσα στη φυσική και ψηφιακή κατάσταση.
Τα έργα επαναπροσδιορίζουν και αλλοιώνουν το σώμα, το οποίο εμπεριέχει την ανάμνηση της φυσικής σάρκας, παραμορφώνοντας το ψηφιακά και κοινωνικά για να εξυπηρετήσει μια νέα αισθητική. Είτε πρόκειται για την άντληση και ανατοποθέτηση πληροφοριακού υλικού σε πορνογραφικές πηγές, δημιουργώντας μια νέα συνειδητοποίηση του εαυτού μέσω εικονικού αποπροσανατολισμού και grotesque 3D απεικονίσεων, την ανάπτυξη νέων τρόπων αρχειοθέτησης αναμνήσεων, ή την κωδικοποίηση και αποκωδικοποίηση γεγονότων από την πραγματική ζωή στην ψηφιακή personae, το σώμα παραμένει πάντα ο πυρήνας και η πλατφόρμα αυτών των εκφράσεων.

Martina Menegon (1988, Ιταλία) new media artist, προγραμματίστρια και εκπαιδευτικός. Η δουλειά της πραγματεύεται το μεταβαλλόμενο και το εφήμερο του ανθρώπινου σώματος, καθώς και την αποξένωση από σωματικότητα στη σημερινή ψηφιακή εποχή, εξετάζοντας το χάσμα ανάμεσα στο πραγματικό και το εικονικό, στη σάρκα και την πληροφορία. Από το 2010 συνεργάζεται με τους Stefano D’Alessio και Klaus Obermaier, δημιουργώντας διαδραστικές performances και εγκαταστάσεις. Με πτυχίο στις οπτικές και παραστατικές τέχνες (IUAV University της Βενετίας), Transmedial Art (University of Applied Art της Βιέννης), από το 2010 είναι βοηθός καθηγητή στο IUAV University, όπου μαζί με τον Klaus Obermaier διδάσκει εργαλεία ανάπτυξης πολυμέσων για διαδραστικές τέχνες. Από το 2016 δίνει διαλέξεις στο τμήμα Transmedial Art στο University of Applied Art της Βιέννης και στο τμήμα Time-based and Interactive Art, στο University of Art Linz. Η Martina Menegon ζει και να εργάζεται σε Βιέννη.

Martinz Alexander, γεννήθηκε το 1979 στο Klagenfurt, σπούδασε ηλεκτροακουστική σύνθεση και transmedia art. Διδάσκει στο University of Applied Arts, ζει και εργάζεται ως συνθέτης και media artist στη Βιέννη, καθώς είναι η φωνή του Αυστριακού μουσικού συγκροτήματος Captain Knife. Το ενδιαφέρον του εστιάζει στις διαφορετικές πτυχές της time based-media, καθώς για και τους ανάλογους συσχετισμούς που προκύπτουν. Οι σύνθετες μεταλλαγές του υλικού που πηγάζει από την popculture μπορεί να θεωρηθεί θεμέλιο της δουλειάς του.

Stefano D’Alessio (1987 Ιταλία) Media artist, προγραμματιστής και συνθέτης, ζει και εργάζεται στη Βιέννη (Αυστρία). Από το 2010 συνεργάζεται με την Martina Menegon, δημιουργώντας διαδραστικές performances και εγκαταστάσεις, που συνδυάζουν το οπτικό και ηχητικό περιβάλλον μέσω προγραμματισμού. Η έρευνά τους ασχολείται με την ψηφιοποίηση της ανθρώπινης ύπαρξης μέσω των νέων τεχνολογιών, τις εικονικές αναπαραστάσεις του «πραγματικού», και τη στρέβλωση που προκαλείται ως αποτέλεσμα αυτών. Η δουλειά τους περιλαμβάνει το ανθρώπινο σώμα ως αφετηρία για την ανάλυση κωδικοποίηση και αποκωδικοποίηση των διαδικασιών του πραγματικού / φυσικού, στο ψηφιακό / μη προσδιορισμένο-αφηρημένο, διερευνώντας τα εφήμερα όρια ανάμεσα στη μηχανή (μηχανικό) και το σώμα, στην τεχνητή νοημοσύνη και στη συνείδηση. Με πτυχίο στις οπτικές τέχνες και το θέατρο (IUAV University της Βενετίας), ο Stefano D’Alessio μελετά την Transmedial Art στο University for Applied Arts of Vienna της Βιέννης, υπό την εποπτεία του Brigitte Kowanz. Από το 2010 είναι βοηθός καθηγητή στα μεταπτυχιακό τμήμα του IUAV University, όπου μαζί με τον Klaus Obermaier διδάσκει εργαλεία ανάπτυξης πολυμέσων για διαδραστικές τέχνες. Πέρα από το προσωπικό του καλλιτεχνικό έργο και τις συνθέσεις του, ο Stefano D’Alessio δημιουργεί μουσική και διαδραστικά οπτικά περιβάλλοντα για διάφορους καλλιτέχνες, μουσικούς, χορογράφους και σκηνοθέτες του θεάτρου.

Κώστας Λαλές (1990, Αθήνα). Μέσα από τη ζωγραφική, τις γλυπτικές εγκαταστάσεις το βίντεο και την performance, προσεγγίζει το ερωτικό στοιχείο και τη σχέση μας με τον εαυτό μας και με το άλλο φύλο. Τα έργα του αποτυπώνουν την πολυδιάστατη επαφή που έχουμε με τα έμψυχα (σώματα) ή άψυχα στοιχεία που μας περιβάλλουν, είτε είναι φυσική, εμπορική, ή και ερωτική. Η αμεσότητα της αποτύπωσης ανθρώπινων μελών, μας προτρέπει να απεγκλωβιστούμε από τον φόβο του σώματος και της σωματικότητας μας. Είναι απόφοιτος του τμήματος Ζωγραφικής (καθηγ. Ζαχαρίας Αρβανίτης, Άγγελος Αντωνόπουλος, Δημήτρης Σακελλίωνας, Μιχάλης Μανουσάκης) και του εργαστηρίου Πολυμέσων – Υπερμέσων (καθηγ. Μάνθος Σαντοριναίος) της Ανωτάτης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών Αθήνας. Το μεγαλύτερο μέρος των συμμετοχών του σε εκθέσεις, φεστιβάλ ψηφιακών μέσων και performance, χαρακτηρίζεται από την έρευνα και αποτύπωση του σώματος ως εργαλείο πυροδότησης της ερωτικής αυτογνωσίας (self awareness).

H Mάγδα Λαμπροπούλου (1977, Αθήνα) δουλεύει με μια γκάμα εκφραστικών μέσων που περιλαμβάνει τη γλυπτική, εγκαταστάσεις, ηχητικά έργα, βίντεο και performance. Με έμφαση στις προκαταλήψεις και στην ηθική που επιβάλλεται από τις εκάστοτε κοινωνίες, δημιουργεί έργα με προσωπικό και κοινωνικό περιεχόμενο, μετατρέποντας τη σιωπηλή παραδοχή σε ρητή δήλωση. Προσκαλεί το κοινό να συμμετάσχει ενεργά και να γίνει κοινωνός των έργων της, στοχεύοντας στην ταυτοποίηση, ανάδειξη και τον σχολιασμό των κοινωνικών ταμπού και στερεοτύπων. Είναι απόφοιτη του τμήματος γλυπτικής της Ανωτάτης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών Αθήνας (καθηγ. Θόδωρος Παπαγιάννης). Η συμμετοχή της σε εκθέσεις και συμπόσια γλυπτικής, νέων τεχνολογιών και performance έχουν συντελέσει σε μια διευρυμένη, εικαστική προσέγγιση και μεθοδολογία.

Vienna based artists Martina Menegon, Alexander Martinz and Stefano D’Alessio meet artists Kostas Lales and Magda Lambropoulou in Athens, for the exhibition Social Distortion / Less real more human at the ArtWall.

Social Distortion includes new media installations and sculptures that center around fluid bodies, constantly switching between physical and digital states. The artworks revisit and transform the body, carrying a remembrance of the physical flesh, digitally and socially distorted to serve a new formal aesthetic. Whether it is about feeding back information into the pornographic maelstrom, creating new awareness of the self by translating it into virtual disorienting and grotesque 3D-scans, developing new ways of archiving memories or coding and decoding real life events from and into digital personae, the body is always the core and platform of these expressions.

Social Distortion exhibition in Athens, is part of the Offspring Young Artists program for the cultivation of new generation artistic practice.

Martina Menegon (1988, Italy) is a new media artist, programmer and educator.
Her work deals with the instability and ephemerality of the human body as well as the alienation from physicality in today’s digital age, questioning the gap between real and virtual, flesh and data. Since 2010 she collaborates with Stefano D’Alessio and Klaus Obermaier, creating interactive performances and installations. With a degree in Visual and Performing Art (IUAV University of Venice) and in Transmedial Arts (The University for Applied Arts of Vienna), since 2010 she is teaching assistant of at the IUAV University, where she teaches multimedia tools for interactive arts with Klaus Obermaier. Since 2016 she is also lecturing in the Transmedial Art department at the University of Applied Art in Vienna and in the department of Time-based and Interactive Art, at the University of Art Linz.
Martina Menegon currently lives and work in Vienna.

Alexander Martinz, born 1979 in Klagenfurt, studied electroacoustic composition and transmedia art. He teaches at the University of Applied Arts, lives and works as a composer and media artist in Vienna and is the voice of Captain Knife. He is interested in the different logics and traditions of time based-media as well as their correlations. Complex transformations of popcultural material can be considered a foundation of his work.

Stefano D’Alessio (1987 Italy) Media artist, programmer and composer, lives and works in Vienna (Austria). Since 2010 he works with Martina Menegon (1988, Italy) creating interactive performances and installations, combining visual and sound thru programming. Their research addresses the digitalization of the human in new technologies, virtual representations of the “real” and the distortions and perceptive amplifications caused by them. Their work involves the human body as incipit for analyzing coding and decoding processes of the real/physic, in to digital/abstract, enquiring the ephemeral limits between machine and body, artificial intelligence and consciousness.
With a degree in Visual Art and Theater at IUAV University of Venice, Stefano D’Alessio is currently studying Transmedial Arts at The University for Applied Arts of Vienna, under the direction of Brigitte Kowanz. Since 2010 he is teaching assistant at the bachelor, master, and post graduate master courses at IUAV University, where he teaches multimedia tools for interactive arts with Klaus Obermaier, artist he regularly collaborates with as programmer and tech/artistic assistant. Besides his own works and compositions Stefano D’Alessio realized music and interactive visuals for various artists, musicians, choreographers and theater directors.

Through painting, sculptural installations, video and performance, Kostas Lales addresses our relationship among self, and same / opposite gender, through eroticism. His work reflects the layered association we have with elements that surround us – whether this contact be physical, commercial, or erotic. The immediacy of human imprinting States, urges us to free ourselves from the fear of body and our physicality. He holds a degree in Painting (prof. Zacharias Arvanitis Angelos Antonopoulos Dimitris Sakellionas Michalis Manousakis) and Multimedia – Hypermedia (prof. Manthos Santorineos) from the Athens School of Fine Arts. His participation in exhibitions, digital media festivals and performances, outline his research and illustration of the body as a device which stimulates erotic self awareness.

Magda Lambropoulou (1977, Athens) her artwork includes the use of diverse, expressive mediums including sculpture, installation, audio, video, performance. With emphasis on issues such as discrimination, pregudice and moral values imposed by a given society, she assumes a humanitarian approach to her work in attempt to transform silent acceptance to an explicit statement. She Invites the audience to participate in her artwork, aiming to raise awareness about social taboos and stereotypes. She holds a degree in Sculpture (prof. Theo Papayannis) from the Athens School of Fine Arts. Her participation in exhibitions, sculptural and new media symposiums, and performances, has resulted in her identifying her visual approach and work methodology.
