Την Πέμπτη 19 Ιανουαρίου σας καλωσορίζουμε στο ArtWall Project Space για τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης “A Collection of Painful Art”, και για μια σειρά προβολών και συζητήσεων που θα ακολουθήσουν τις επόμενες μέρες μέχρι το Σάββατο 28 Ιανουαρίου.

“Ακόμα και μέσα στους πιο δημοφιλείς τομείς της τέχνης, ειδικά στην αφηγηματική τέχνη, εγκλείονται επώδυνες εμπειρίες”, σημειώνει η Aaron Smuts, Δρ. Φιλοσοφίας, Πανεπιστήμιο Wisconsin-Madison στο Journal of Aesthetic Education, 2007. Συνεχίζει με την ερώτηση, “Υπάρχει κάποια πραγματική διαφορά ανάμεσα στη συναισθηματική αντίδραση που επιδιώκουμε μέσα από την τέχνη, και σε αυτή που επιδιώκουμε από την ίδια τη ζωή;”
Στην αναζήτηση καλλιτεχνών που η δουλειά τους προσεγγίζει το επώδυνο (painful) στην τέχνη, κάποια έργα ξεδιπλώνονται με αιχμηρό χιούμορ, συμβολισμούς και μεταφορικές έννοιες, και άλλα με μια ευθύτητα που σχεδόν ντρέπεσαι να τα κοιτάξεις. Η έκθεση “A Collection of Painful Art” μοιάζει να πρόκειται για μια μικρή προσωπική συλλογή, ένα φετίχ που κάποιος αποφάσισε να αποκαλύψει στο κοινό. Φυσικά το θέμα δεν εξαντλείται εδώ, οι αναφορές είναι ατελείωτες, εντός και εκτός συνόρων και μεταξύ πολιτισμών.

Live παρουσίαση 18 μικρό-εφευρέσεων

H Anna Vasof σε μια συζήτηση με το κοινό, παρουσιάζει μια σειρά εφευρέσεων που αποτελεί και το κύριο στοιχείο στη δουλειά της. Μια μηχανή που λειτουργεί μόνο τη στιγμή της διάλυσής της, παπούτσια που μεταφράζουν τη κίνησή των ποδιών σε γεωπολιτικά γεγονότα, προσθετικά νύχια-εργαλεία ξυλουργικής και άλλες 15 εφευρέσεις.

H Anna Vasof είναι αρχιτέκτονας και media artist. Γεννήθηκε το 1985, σπούδασε αρχιτεκτονική στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Θεσσαλίας και Transmedia Art στο Πανεπιστήμιο Εφαρμοσμένων Τεχνών της Βιέννης. Από το 2004 έχουν βίντεο της και ταινίες μικρού μήκους έχουν παρουσιαστεί σε διάφορες εκθέσεις και φεστιβάλ ταινιών, μερικά από αυτά κερδίζοντας διακρίσεις. (Best Austrian Animation 2014, Best Experimental Animation 2016, το RISC, France: Young Audience Award 2015, το H.Sielecki Preis Tricky Women 2016) Αυτό το καιρό δουλεύει τη θεματική της για το Ph.D. in Practice αναπτύσσοντας μια καινούρια τεχνική animation και παράλληλα σχεδιάζει και κατασκευάζει μηχανισμούς παραγωγής βίντεο, δράσεων και εγκαταστάσεων.

Προβολή βίντεο & συζήτηση

ʺMadonnaʺ, ʺAphroditeʺ, ʺSelfexile, ʺMeta-Oedipousʺ, 4 βίντεο – σταθμοί στην καλλιτεχνική πορεία του εικαστικού Νίκου Γιαβρόπουλου θα παρουσιαστούν το Σάββατο 21 Ιανουαρίου, μέσα στην έκθεση “A collection of Painful Art”.
Τη σειρά της παρουσίασης θα ανοίξει το πρώτο βίντεο με τίτλο ʺMadonnaʺ. Το βίντεο απέσπασε το πρώτο βραβείο μικρού μήκους video art το 1998 για το Ευρωπαϊκό Φεστιβάλ Βίντεο Τέχνης ʺMediaterraʺ που διοργανώθηκε από το Κέντρο Τέχνης και Τεχνολογίας «Φούρνος». Το δεύτερο video, ʺAphroditeʺ παρουσιάστηκε για πρώτη φορά το 2005 στον ίδιο χώρο, έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολλά Φεστιβάλ video art στο εξωτερικό. Στη συνέχεια θα προβληθεί το ʺSelfexileʺ – πρώτο βραβείο καλλιτεχνικού Video “Odysseus” 2013, από το London Greek Film and Video Festival. Tελευταίο βίντεο της παρουσίασης το ʺMeta-Oedipousʺ (2016). Το έργο παρουσιάστηκε ως video performance στο μουσείο Μπενάκη στο πλαίσιο της έκθεσης [OUT] TOPIAS, περφόρμανς και υπαίθριος / δημόσιος χώρος.

Ο Νίκος Γιαβρόπουλος γεννήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Η δουλειά του ως video artist επικεντρώνεται στην καταγραφή και τον σχολιασμό κοινωνικών θεμάτων, αισθητικής, παιδείας, οπτικής, ήθους δημόσιου χώρου. Έχει λάβει μέρος σε πολλά φεστιβάλ σε Δανία, Ιταλία και Η.Π.Α., και σε εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα, Γαλλία, Δανία, Αγγλία, Ιταλία, ΗΠΑ, Περού, Βραζιλία, Βουλγαρία, Ισπανία, Γερμανία, Σουηδία, Αυστρία, Ρωσία και Πολωνία. Έχει στο ενεργητικό του πολλές ατομικές εκθέσεις και επιμέλειες. Έχει διακριθεί σε σημαντικά διεθνή video art festivals όπως το “Odysseus award” στο London Greek film festival (2013).

Ανάγνωση με ταυτόχρονη προβολή βίντεο

«Η λογοτεχνία ασχολείται με την αγωνία»: ακολουθώντας την πίστη που εξέφρασε ο Georges Bataille στην μοναδική του τηλεοπτική συνέντευξη στον Pierre Dumayet το 1957, ο Χρήστος Χρυσόπουλος αυτο-ανθολογείται κατασκευάζοντας μια επικράτεια λόγου με μοναδικό ένοικο τη συνείδηση της παροδικότητας.

Ο Χρήστος Χρυσόπουλος (Αθήνα, 1968) ασχολείται με τη λογοτεχνία και τη φωτογραφία. Η φωτογραφική του εργασία εξερευνά τη σχέση της εικόνας με την αφήγηση Έχει βραβευτεί με το Βραβείο Ακαδημίας Αθηνών (2008) και με τα γαλλικά βραβεία Prix Laure Bataillon (2014), Prix Ravachol (2013) και με το διεθνές βραβείο Balkanika (2015). Είναι μέλος του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου Πολιτισμού (ECP). Συνεργάζεται με το Artwall Project Space και έχει πραγματοποιήσει εκθέσεις στο Μουσείο Άλεξ Μυλωνά (Αθήνα). MUCEM (Μασσαλία), Δημοτικό Θέατρο Πειραιά, Musee d’Histoire de Bretagne (Ναντ)… κ.ά.

A Collection of Painful Art | Exhibition Program

Opening on January 19 at the ArtWall Project Space, the exhibition “A Collection of Painful Art” will welcome the audience to a series of screenings and talks to follow until Saturday January 28.

“Many of the most popular genres of narrative art are designed to elicit negative emotions: emotions that are experienced as painful or involving some degree of pain”, notes Aaron Smuts, PhD. Philosophy, University of Wisconsin-Madison in his Journal of Aesthetic Education, 2007. “Is there a fundamental difference between the kinds of emotional responses we seek from art and those we seek from life?”
In search of artists whose work touches on issues of pain (painful), we discovered art that exposes itself through a critical, humorous stimuli, symbolism and metaphors, as work which displays an acute directness that may often bring the audience close to embarrassment. The exhibition “A Collection of Painful Art” is presented in fact, as a small personal collection, a fetich revealed to the public. Without doubt, this thematic is endless and extends beyond this exhibition, across borders and between cultures.

Anna Vasof: Climbing Mountains
Live presentation of 18 small scale inventions

Anna Vasof will be presenting a series of small scale inventions – performative, mechanical objects, which is the main idea that is represented in her artwork. A machine that reacts only upon its dissolution, shoes that translate leg movement to geopolitical events, prosthetic nails – carpentry tools and 15 more inventions.

Anna Vasof is an architect and media artist. Born in 1985, she studied architecture at the University of Thessaly (2010) in Greece and Transmedia Art (2014) at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Since 2004 her videos and short movies have been presented in several festivals, some of them winning distinctions. She’s currently writing a Ph.D. thesis about an animation technique that she develops and at the same time working on designing and building innovative mechanisms for producing critical and narrative videos, actions and installations.

Video Screening and Talk

“Madonna”, “Aphrodite”, “Selfexile, “Meta-Oedipous”, 4 videos representing key turning points in the career of artist Nikos Giavropoulos, will be screened on Saturday, January 21, in the exhibition “A collection of Painful Art”. The presentation will open with the artist’s first video entitled “Madonna” (1992), a work that was produced as a result of six years of study and experimentation. The video won first short art video art prize for the “Mediaterra” European Video Art Festival organized by the Fournos Center of Art and Technology. The second video, “Aphrodite” was first presented in 2005 – same venue – and has participated in several video art festival in Greece and abroad. “Selfexile” the Special Odysseus award winning Best video art at the London Greek Film Festival films in 2013, will be the third video to be presented. The screening will close with “Meta-Oedipous” (2016), presented as a video performance at the Benaki Museum in the exhibition [OUT] TOPIAS, performances and outdoor / public space.

Nikos Giavropoulos was born in Thessaloniki. His work as a video artist focuses on documenting and reflecting on social issues, aesthetics, matters of education and perspective, and moral of public space. He has participated in many festivals in Denmark, Italy and the USA, and in exhibitions in Greece, France, Denmark, England, Italy, USA, Peru, Brazil, Bulgaria, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Russia and Poland.
He has held a number of solo shows and curated many exhibitions. He has been awarded in many important international video art festivals such as “Odysseus award” at the London Greek film festival (2013).

Reading with simultaneous video projection

“Literature has to deal with anguish”: following this conviction expressed by Georges Bataille in his only television interview to Pierre Dumayet in 1957, Christos Chrissopoulos is self-athologized creating a narrative territory inhabited by an isolated consciousness of ephemerality.

Christos Chrissopoulos (Athens, 1968) works on literature and photography. His photographic work explores the relationship between images and narrative. He has been awarded with the Prize Academy of Athens (2008) and French awards Prix Laure Bataillon (2014), Prix Ravachol (2013) and the International Balkanika Award (2015). He is a member of the European Cultural Parliament (ECP). He collaborates regularly with the Artwall Project Space and has had exhibitions -among others- in the Museum Alex Mylona (Athens). MUCEM (Marseille), Piraeus Municipal Theatre, Musee d’Histoire de Bretagne (Nantes).
